Expressive art (art therapy)
Art therapy is about taking time to see within, time for you . . . We are always experiencing different things in our lives, and it can be difficult to talk about, or even know where to begin. Often words are simply too hard to find to adequatley describe or make sense of. Through using paint, pastels or watercolour we make visible our internal feelings and thoughts from the body and have something to work with. Art therapy assists you to authentically express you in non-judgemental, supported ways.
Simple, yet powerful processes help access information that is unknown and opens you to the deeper levels of the psyche, the unconscious. It allows solutions to arise that previously were inaccessible without guidance.
Art Therapy offers useful tools to help individual’s overcome challenges within their lives, as they transition from one experience to another. This is not about creating a masterpiece, it is about self-expression where creativity is used. No artistic skill is required or needed.
Whist guided to make a response to your personal story, emphasis is placed on the process, and what happens during and after.
The focus is not on producing a work of art, which is why the therapy differs from normal artistic creation. It provides you with another way to communicate things that are hard to express and shows you what you need at the time.
Change happens when you are ready . . .
